Eastern Gateway Community College
Eastern Gateway Community College is based in Steubenville, OH, which is in the Eastern part of the state, near Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Several years ago, the state’s governor asked the College to expand 65 miles northward to Youngstown, OH. One of most economically challenged areas in the nation, Youngstown had never enjoyed the education benefits that a strong Community College offers. The College stepped up to the challenge and began offering classes in Mahoning County.
EGCC quickly outgrew their classrooms and over several years they moved to various locations to accommodate the demand from students. In 2012, Higher Education Partners collaborated with them to establish a permanent site in Youngstown. With millions of dollars in investment from Higher Education Partners, the new site opened in Fall 2012 with double-digit enrollment growth.
The College was eager to build on the success of the Valley Center, and decided to expand the partnership with Higher Education Partners to its Warren Center in Trumbull County. The College just announced that HEP will invest between $5 million and $7 million in a new location with 20,000 square feet, which is nearly 10 times the amount at their current location.
The College expects to double the number of students it serves by this time next year — from 100 to 200.
Higher Education Partner’s collaboration with EGCC has also expanded to assist with the launch of the College’s new online degrees. HEP assists with the marketing, recruiting and enrollment management aspects of their online implementation strategy. We also facilitate and provide the resources of instructional design of the courses.
With all of this activity, the College is the 16th fastest growing higher education institution in the country and is on pace to serve 10,000 students by the end of the decade. It is a very exciting opportunity for the community and for the College, and Higher Education Partners is thrilled to be a part of such an endeavor.
